FIRE SAFETY
We want you to keep your family safe from fire.
Smoke Alarms
Most deadly fires happen at night, when people are asleep. Smoke alarms provide an early warning of a fire, giving people time to escape. It’s important to properly install and maintain your home smoke alarms.
South County Fire will help install or troubleshoot fire alarms for seniors or others with special needs or concerns. We have specialized alarms for people with hearing issues, too.
Email Community Outreach for more information.
Fire Extinguishers
It's good to have a fire extinguisher on hand. But even if you do, call the fire department first when there's a fire. Fire extinguishers are only a stop-gap measure to keep a very small fire in check until the fire department arrives.
If you have a fire extinguisher, make sure that it is fully charged and ready to use.
South County Fire periodically offers fire extinguisher trainings. If you are interested in attending a fire extinguisher training, or if your business is interested in training its staff, please email Community Outreach.
Fire Safety Education
For kids: Sparky the Fire Dog has games and activities to teach kids about fire safety.
For seniors: Older adults are twice as likely to be injured or killed in a fire, according to the National Fire Protection Association.
