Woman seriously injured in apartment fire

Post Date:05/03/2019 9:45 AM
Millwood Estates fire Martha Lake LynnwoodA woman was seriously injured in an apartment fire in the Martha Lake area east of Lynnwood on May 2.

A neighbor called 911 at 7:06 p.m. to report the fire at the Millwood Estates in the 16600 block of Sixth Ave. W in unincorporated Lynnwood. Smoke was coming from a second-floor apartment in a three-story building when crews from South County Fire arrived. The injured resident had already exited the apartment and was located in the parking lot. She was transported by medic unit to Harborview Medical Center. There were no other injuries.

South County Fire and Snohomish County Fire District 7 crews kept the fire contained to the one apartment and had the fire under control in about 10 minutes. The woman closed the door as she exited the apartment, which helped prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring apartments.

Fire damage left the second-floor apartment uninhabitable and displaced the injured woman and her son, who was playing outside at the time of the fire. Three residents were also displaced from the first-floor apartment below the fire unit due to water damage. The Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance.

This appears to be an accidental fire and the cause remains under investigation by the Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office. Damage is estimated at $85,000.
