Three men safely escape duplex fire near Lake Stickney

Post Date:07/13/2018 2:30 PM
Flames from attic of duplexThree men safely escaped after a passerby alerted them to a fire in their duplex north of Lynnwood this morning.

The fire was reported at 8:05 a.m. at a two-story duplex in the 1900 block of S. Lake Stickney Dr. A father and his adult son were asleep in one unit and the third man was asleep in the adjoining unit at the time of the fire. “All three were awakened by noise from the passerby, who honked a car horn, yelled and pounded on doors,” said Leslie Hynes, public information officer for South County Fire. “We didn’t get a chance to thank the passerby, but we are grateful the person stopped to make sure everyone got out safely.”

Responding firefighters could see a large column of black smoke as they approached and flames were already through the roof when they arrived. Everett Fire Department and Paine Field Fire Department responded to assist South County Fire. About 30 firefighters were on the scene at the peak of the fire. No one was injured.

damage to back of duplexThe fire left both units of the duplex uninhabitable. Red Cross is assisting five adults displaced by the fire – a man, a woman and their adult son from the unit where the fire started and a man and a woman from the adjacent unit..

No word yet on the cause of the fire. The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
