Martha Lake house fire displaces family of four

Post Date:03/02/2018 4:29 AM
A two-alarm fire heavily damaged a home east of Lynnwood and displaced a family of four early this morning.

The fire was reported around 1:40 a.m. at a single-story house in the 17000 block of 13th Ave. W.  The residents, a couple and their two young children, discovered the fire after they were awakened by a loud bang. They safely exited the house. One dog also made it out safely. Three dogs died in the fire.

The house was already engulfed in flames by the time the first South County Fire crews arrived from the Martha Lake Fire Station less than a block away. Firefighters had to attack the fire from outside because fire conditions made it too dangerous to enter the structure. Firefighters from South County Fire, Snohomish County Fire District 7 and Everett Fire Department responded. No injuries were reported.

The house is a total loss. Damage is expected to total more than $200,000. Red Cross and Support 7 responded to assist the family displaced by the fire. This appears to be an accidental fire that may have started in the attic, according to the Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office. The exact cause is undetermined.
