Change your clock, change your smoke alarm batteries
South Snohomish County Fire & Rescue is encouraging residents to change the batteries in their smoke alarms when they turn their clocks back from Daylight Saving Time on Sunday, Nov. 5.
Smoke alarm batteries should be changed twice a year, but remembering to do this can be difficult. Changing batteries when you change your clocks to and from Daylight Saving Time is a helpful way to make sure you keep your smoke alarms in working order. The most common cause of non-working smoke alarms is worn or missing batteries.
To make sure smoke alarms are in working order:
- Test at least once a month using the test button.
- Clean at least once a month. Dust with a vacuum to unclog the vents.
- Replace the battery twice a year.
