Five residents displaced by two-alarm four-plex fire started by generator

madison way fire webInvestigators believe a generator sparked a two-alarm fire that caused heavy damage and displaced five adult residents at a four-plex in unincorporated Lynnwood this morning.

Dispatchers received multiple 911 calls around 9:30 a.m. reporting the fire in the 1700 block of Madison Way. Firefighters could see a large column of black smoke from miles away as they approached the scene. “They arrived to find a shed and garage engulfed in flames and fire in the attic above the living space in the one-story building,” said Leslie Hynes, public information officer for Snohomish County Fire District 1.

All residents safely evacuated. Firefighters from Fire Districts 1 and 7, Lynnwood, Mukilteo and Everett responded and had the fire under control in about 20 minutes. No one was injured.

The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office investigated and determined this was an accidental fire started by a generator that was running inside the shed attached to the four-plex building.

The fire left the building uninhabitable. Support 7 and Red Cross are providing assistance to the displaced residents.
